The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities: the business of building trust and understanding between nations. The British Council’s office in Yemen is one of over 100 worldwide. It was established over 50 years ago and remains one of our important operations today.

We work in three key areas: Arts, English and Education and Society, with a focus on young people. The themes of ‘employability’, 'Empowerment' and ‘voice’ cut across all the work we do:

  • employability – to support young people to achieve the education, qualifications and skills needed to maximize their potential in their future careers.
  • Empowerment – to support the empowerment of the current generation in taking charge of fulfilling their destiny.
  • voice – to create and develop new networks and platforms to give young people a voice in society.
