We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.

We uniquely combine the UK’s deep expertise in arts and culture, education and the English language, our global presence and relationships in over 100 countries, our unparalleled access to young people and influencers and our creative sparkle.

We work directly with individuals to help them gain the skills, confidence and connections to transform their lives and shape a better world in partnership with the UK. We support them to build networks and explore creative ideas, to learn English, to get a high-quality education and to gain internationally recognised qualifications.

The British Council in Yemen

The British Council’s office in Yemen is one of over 100 worldwide. It was established over 50 years ago and remains one of our important operations today.

We work in three key areas: Arts, English and Education and Society, with a focus on young people. The themes of ‘employability’, 'Empowerment' and ‘voice’ cut across all the work we do:

  • employability – to support young people to achieve the education, qualifications and skills needed to maximize their potential in their future careers.
  • Empowerment – to support the empowerment of the current generation in taking charge of fulfilling their destiny.
  • voice – to create and develop new networks and platforms to give young people a voice in society.
